⚡ The August 18 leak: what’s actually going on

On August 18, gameplay clips and images of what’s claimed to be the full Leonida map surfaced online, nine days before Rockstar’s official Extended Look. Take-Two has been issuing takedowns, and Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has indicated at least some of the material is genuine. Here’s the part nobody tells you: the real leak is buried under a flood of AI fakes and recycled clips. Most of what you’re seeing tagged “GTA 6 leak” isn’t the leak.

How we decide

Three rules, applied to every row: a claim needs two independent sources or one primary source (Rockstar, Take-Two filings, Guinness) to be called confirmed; anything below that bar is labelled, never promoted; and when the facts change, the row changes the same day. Spotting a fake yourself

Most GTA 6 hoaxes fail one of three checks. Origin: can the clip or screenshot be traced to a first post by an identifiable account, or does it only exist as reposts? Untraceable origin is the #1 hoax signature. Consistency: does it match the community map and everything officially shown? Fakes routinely place landmarks where trailers prove nothing exists. Craft: fonts, HUD elements and UI that almost-but-not-quite match official material are the classic tell: forgers reproduce the vibe, not the details. When in doubt, check this page: if a viral claim is 24 hours old and has no row here yet, that’s usually because it just appeared, not because it’s real.

Did GTA 6 really cost $2 billion to make? Unconfirmed: leak-era reporting and analyst guesses. Take-Two has never stated a budget.

Is GTA 6 coming to PC in 2027? No PC version is announced at all. The 2027 dates are projections from Rockstar’s past release patterns.

Is there a third GTA 6 trailer? No “Trailer 3” is announced. What’s confirmed is “An Extended Look,” premiering on Netflix August 27, 2026.
