SECTION 2.12: GTA 6 IN NUMBERS: EVERY VERIFIED STATISTIC
GTA 6 in Numbers: Every Verified Statistic
This page is a sourced fact sheet. Every number below is one citable sentence with a named source and a date. Confirmed figures, third-party estimates and unconfirmed rumors are kept in separate sections, because most “GTA 6 statistics” circulating online mix all three. Journalists and creators: everything here is free to cite (a link back is appreciated).
Last updated: August 8, 2026.
Confirmed: sales & money
- Take-Two reported $1.39 billion in net bookings for the quarter ending June 30, 2026, above its own guidance range of $1.32-1.37 billion. (Take-Two Q1 FY2027 results, Aug 7, 2026)
- Take-Two forecasts $8.0-8.2 billion in net bookings for fiscal year 2027, roughly 20% growth over the prior year, with GTA 6 as the primary driver. (Take-Two FY2027 guidance, reiterated Aug 7, 2026)
- GTA 6 pre-orders are “unprecedented,” per CEO Strauss Zelnick: Take-Two declined to release specific numbers. The quarter captured only the first five days of pre-orders (opened June 25, 2026). (Take-Two earnings call, Aug 7, 2026)
- Grand Theft Auto V has sold more than 230 million copies since 2013: the benchmark GTA 6 will be measured against. (Take-Two, Aug 7, 2026)
- The GTA 6 Standard Edition costs $79.99. Zelnick defended the price on the earnings call, arguing game prices have not kept pace with inflation. (Rockstar pricing; Take-Two earnings call, Aug 7, 2026)
- Over 90% of Take-Two’s business is already digital: the company’s stated reason for shipping GTA 6 without a disc (the boxed version contains a download code). (Take-Two earnings call, Aug 7, 2026)
Confirmed: audience records
- Trailer 1 drew 90,421,491 YouTube views in 24 hours (December 2023), setting three Guinness World Records: most-viewed game reveal in 24 hours, most-viewed non-music YouTube video in 24 hours, and most-liked game trailer (8.9 million likes in 24 hours). (Guinness World Records, Dec 2023)
- Trailer 2 reached over 475 million views across all platforms in 24 hours (May 2025): the biggest video launch in internet history per Rockstar, beating the previous record of 365 million held by the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. (Rockstar via The Hollywood Reporter, May 2025)
- Note the scope difference: Trailer 1’s record is YouTube-only (it existed nowhere else); Trailer 2’s 475 million counts every platform. The two numbers measure different things: a distinction most viral posts skip.
Confirmed: release facts
- GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. (Rockstar)
- Pre-orders opened June 25, 2026. (Rockstar)
- “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” premieres on Netflix on August 27, 2026 at 3 PM ET, then lands on Rockstar’s YouTube channel at 9 PM ET the same day. (Rockstar / Take-Two, announced Aug 2026)
- No PC version is announced. Precedent: GTA V’s PC release came about 18 months after console. Full breakdown on the PC page.
Estimates (labeled as such)
- ~$260 million in global digital pre-order spending in the first week: an estimate by analytics firm Newzoo, extrapolated from ~$180 million measured across the US and five major European markets. Newzoo called it the largest pre-order opening in its dataset. (Newzoo via Video Games Chronicle, July 2026: estimate, not an official figure)
- Every playtime and completion estimate lives on our how-long page: story length and 100% time are not announced and every circulating number is a leak or a projection.
Reported, not confirmed
This section exists because these numbers are quoted everywhere as fact. None of them has ever been confirmed by Rockstar or Take-Two.
- “GTA 6 cost $2 billion to make.” Origin: reporting and analyst guesses around the 2022 leak era. Take-Two has never stated a development budget in any filing or call. Status: rumor.
- “Pre-orders made $1 billion in the first hour” and “$3 billion+ total.” Origin: unverified viral claims and a union blog post, respectively. Take-Two explicitly declined to give pre-order figures on August 7. Status: unconfirmed.
- “The map is twice the size of GTA 5.” Community projection from trailer analysis, covered on our map page. Status: estimate.
These three are the money-and-scale claims. For the full verification table (every circulating GTA 6 claim labelled confirmed, estimate, unconfirmed or false), see real or rumor?.
How we verify
Every statistic on this page requires two independent sources or one primary source (an official Rockstar publication, a Take-Two filing or earnings call, Guinness World Records). Anything that fails that bar goes in “Reported, not confirmed”: it never gets promoted silently. Full methodology on the about page. When Rockstar confirms or corrects a figure, this page changes the same day and the changelog records it.
Track the game itself, not just the numbers: everything officially known lives in everything we know, and at launch every mission, vehicle and collectible goes into the free 100% tracker.
FAQ
How much did GTA 6 cost to make? Nobody outside Take-Two knows. The “$2 billion” figure repeated in headlines has never been confirmed: it’s leak-era reporting and analyst guesswork.
How many GTA 6 pre-orders have been sold? No official number exists. Take-Two called them “unprecedented” on August 7, 2026 but gave no figures. Newzoo’s third-party estimate: ~$260 million in global digital pre-order spending in week one.
What records has GTA 6 already broken? Three Guinness records with Trailer 1 (including 90.4 million YouTube views in 24 hours) and the biggest video launch in internet history with Trailer 2 (475+ million views across platforms in 24 hours), all before the game exists.
