SECTION 1.7: WHEN IS GTA 6 COMING TO PC?
When Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?
GTA 6 is not coming to PC at launch. The November 19, 2026 release covers PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and as of July 2026, Rockstar has not announced a PC version at all: no date, no storefront, no system requirements. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed this is a deliberate business decision, not a technical wall. Based on Rockstar’s release history, our estimate for the PC version is late 2027 to mid-2028.

| Rockstar game | Console launch | PC launch | The wait |
|---|---|---|---|
| GTA IV | Apr 2008 | Dec 2008 | ~8 months |
| GTA V | Sep 2013 | Apr 2015 | ~19 months |
| Red Dead Redemption 2 | Oct 2018 | Nov 2019 | ~13 months |
| Red Dead Redemption | May 2010 | 2024 | 14 years: the outlier |
Is GTA 6 confirmed for PC?
No, and it’s worth being precise about what that means. Every official communication, from the release-date announcement to the pre-order launch, names PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S exclusively. Take-Two reaffirmed the console date on its May 2026 earnings call, and the company’s financial guidance for the current fiscal year contains no PC release. Rockstar has published nothing about a PC version: no window, no store pages, no specs.
What’s notable is that this isn’t a case of Rockstar staying silent by default. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has directly addressed it, telling IGN that GTA 6 arriving on consoles only is a deliberate choice rather than a sign the PC version doesn’t exist or is technically blocked. That’s a meaningfully different signal than the usual “no comment”: it points to a planned second wave, not an open question.
That said, “not announced” is not “not coming.” Every mainline GTA of the modern era eventually reached PC, and the platform’s revenue is far too large for Take-Two to ignore. A PC version is near-certain, but that’s our reading of the pattern, not something Rockstar has said. Every official statement, the day it drops, lands in our everything-we-know log.
The realistic timeline
The table above is the best predictor available. Rockstar’s modern pattern runs 8 to 19 months between console and PC; applied to a November 19, 2026 launch, that puts the PC window between mid-2027 and mid-2028, with the later end more consistent with the two most recent data points (GTA V at ~19 months, RDR2 at ~13).
One earlier scenario circulates: former Rockstar developers have floated early 2027, with February 2027 mentioned as a target tied to Take-Two’s fiscal year end. Treat that as informed speculation: it comes from industry observers, not from Rockstar, and it would be an unusually fast turnaround by the studio’s own standards. And Red Dead Redemption’s 14-year wait is the reminder in the other direction: a port is a business decision, not an automatic timer. Our estimate stays late 2027, clearly labeled as an estimate, and this page will be rewritten within a day of any official announcement.
Expected PC requirements
Nothing official exists, so anything precise you read elsewhere is invented. What can be said responsibly: the requirements will land far above GTA V’s 2015-era specs, an SSD will be mandatory (the console versions are built around one), and Rockstar’s simulation-heavy world design points to the CPU mattering as much as the GPU. If you’re planning a build for GTA 6, waiting for the official specs before buying parts is the only rational move. We’ll publish a dedicated “will my PC run it” guide the day they drop.
Wait for PC, or buy a console?
The honest math, both ways.
Buying a console wins if GTA 6 is a this-year priority. Waiting for PC means sitting out 12 to 24+ months while the game dominates the conversation, and the PC version will almost certainly launch at full price anyway, as GTA V’s did, so patience saves less money than it seems. If that trade sounds bad, our best console for GTA 6 guide lays out the smart buy at every budget, including the current price deadlines worth knowing about.
Waiting wins if you’re a patient PC-only player. Rockstar’s PC versions have historically been the definitive ones (higher fidelity, better frame rates, eventual mods), and arriving a year late also means arriving after the day-one patches. If your rig is your platform and November hype doesn’t move you, waiting is a perfectly rational plan.
Either way, the rest of your launch prep lives in the GTA 6 buying guide.
FAQ
Why does Rockstar delay PC versions? It’s strategy, not accident: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has confirmed the console-only launch is a deliberate business decision, not a technical limitation. A staggered release gives Rockstar two launches (consoles first, then a “second launch” on PC with enhanced features) while concentrating optimization and marketing.
Will the GTA 6 PC version have mods? Expect the GTA 5 situation: no official mod support, but a huge unofficial single-player scene that Rockstar has historically tolerated offline. That’s precedent, not confirmation.
Will my PC run GTA 6? Too early: no PC version or specs exist. Safe assumptions: far above GTA 5’s requirements, mandatory SSD, strong multi-core CPU. We’ll publish a full requirements guide when Rockstar announces specs.
