Microsoft confirmed the increase on Xbox Wire, citing storage and memory component costs that have risen more than 2.5x in a year. This is Microsoft’s third increase in 15 months, and the company expects component costs to double again by late 2027, so waiting for prices to come back down is not a realistic plan.

PlayStation prices are not affected: Sony’s own increase already landed on April 2, 2026, and no further change has been announced. That is what has changed the maths on this page: the Series X and the standard PS5 sat level at $649.99 in July, and the Xbox is now the more expensive of the two by $150.

Xbox Series X vs Series S
